Milwaukee Rowing Club
Athlete Code of Conduct
Milwaukee Rowing Club expects a high standard of behavior from all of our athletes. We are committed to providing a safe and positive environment for athletes, coaches, and all members of the club. The following guidelines set out the minimum expectations while an athlete is participating in any Milwaukee Rowing Club activities (at our facilities, at a regatta, or at an MRC event).
1. I represent my coaches, my family, all members of Milwaukee Rowing Club and myself, at all times.
2. I will abide by my coach's recommendations for a healthy lifestyle. I will be attentive to proper rest, hydration, and nutrition practices.
3. I understand and agree to adhere to Milwaukee Rowing Club zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of controlled substances. This includes but is not limited to alcohol, tobacco, vaping/e-cigarettes, and any illegal drugs.
4. I will demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect towards my teammates, my opponents, my coaches, other team coaches, parents, regatta staff, and officials. I will use appropriate language and I will encourage and support my teammates and opponents - not criticize them. I will show respect in my actions and in my words to all people regardless of gender, race, creed, or socio-economic status. I will support my team in victory and defeat.
5. I will accept the decisions of my coaches and other officials.
6. I will respect Milwaukee Rowing Club property and equipment, as well as the property and equipment of others. I will refrain from activities that could damage any MRC property and equipment. I understand that I am financially responsible for any damage that I cause by disobeying this rule.
7. I will accept and carry out the instruction of my coaches, regatta staff, officials, and designated chaperones in matters including but not limited to regatta rules, transportation, curfews and accommodations at all regattas.
8. I understand that conduct which results in harm, potential for harm, or the imminent threat of harm (including bullying, cyber bullying, hazing, harassment, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct) will not be tolerated and will be grounds for immediate dismissal as well as reported to the appropriate authorities.
9. I will abide by all rules and laws of the United States of America, the State of Wisconsin, Milwaukee County and City of Milwaukee, and the country, state, province, county and city where I may be participating in an event.
I understand that I am expected to tell the truth at all times when I am involved in MRC activities. I understand that if it is determined that a violation occurred and I was associated with that activity, I will also be considered to have violated the rules.
Some code violations can be resolved through good communication and problem solving. In the event of a more serious violation, depending on severity and the nature of such violation, athletes may be suspended temporarily or permanently removed from the rowing program, races, and other team activities. Before such action would be taken, a conference would be held with the athlete, the Head Coach, other staff members, and parent chaperones as applicable as it pertains to the incident. The athlete’s parents will also be consulted as soon as practicable and as feasible under the circumstances. After consultation, enforcement and final authority of such enforcement rests with the Director of Junior Rowing. Whether the incident was a first violation or whether the individual has multiple violations will be taken into account when administering consequences.
I have read and understand what is expected of me as a member of the Milwaukee Rowing Club, and I will abide by the Athlete Code of Conduct.
